When does it actually get dark?

Later than you think, in summer. A 7 p.m. ghost walk in June is a daytime walk in most of Europe. In Edinburgh the sun sets just before 10 p.m. in mid-June and it isn't properly dark until 11:01 p.m.; in December it's dark by 4:25 p.m. Singapore hardly moves: 7:23 p.m. in December, 7:33 p.m. in June. Every city page prints its month-by-month table, and what time it gets dark puts all 32 cities side by side.

How the Night Score works

Four parts, fixed weights, the same for every tour. 30% is the rating, adjusted for how many people gave it: a 5.0 from 40 reviews gets pulled toward 4.5 so it can't beat a 4.9 from 4,000. 10% is the review count itself. 20% is the price per person per hour, so a cheap two-hour walk can outscore a pricey four-hour bus. And 40% is our editors' after-dark score, which asks one thing: how much is the night the point? A rainforest night walk gets 10. An evening walk that's much the same by day gets 6. No commission goes into it. How we score night tours has every formula.

The middle from-price across all 340 tours we score is $44 (€39) a person. Plenty of good ones cost less: London's Jack the Ripper evening walk from Meet the Street is $20 (€17.90), and the top-scoring Singapore river cruise is $32 (€29) for four hours. What is the best night tour for families?

The Singapore river cruise with the Garden Rhapsody and Spectra shows, at 8.6. It starts at 5:30 p.m., so kids are back at a sane hour. Can you visit the Colosseum at night?

Yes, but only on the official Una Notte al Colosseo visits, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in summer and early autumn, at $56 (€50) full price. The 2026 run ended on October 22 and 2027 dates aren't out yet. Until they are, a night walk that ends at the floodlit Colosseum is the realistic option. Details on the Colosseum night tour.

Do you need a tour for the Singapore Night Safari?

No. The park's own visitor ticket is $45 (€41; S$58) for an adult, and the tram is included. The one tour that cleared our bar mostly adds a ride out to Mandai, and it costs nearly double. Take the Mandai Khatib bus from Khatib MRT instead. See the Singapore Night Safari.
